Successful Behavior Management Strategies

There are many reasons why children with autism exhibit what are called "problem" or "challenging" or "maladaptive" behaviors. To help determine the function of any behavior---something that you can see, feel,hear, count and time---utilize a simple mnemonic device, which is M.E.A.T.S.

The first letter stands for Medical. You ALWAYS want to rule out medical issues first, as they do not respond to behavioral interventions.
